Karl Guthrie –Founder, Head of Sales

Climbtech co-founder Karl has been a fanatical rock climber for over 35 years and a self-employed business professional for 25. His climbing accomplishments have been featured in Rock and Ice magazine. His innovative products have won multiple awards in that publication and others.

Before founding ClimbTech, Karl and cofounder Joseph Schwartz created another company, GO-PRO, which manufactured climbing equipment in the mid 80’s. Through GO-PRO, the team established a strong reputation, as well as many relationships that continue to hold strong at Climb-Tech.

Karl’s passion for rock climbing and focus on safety innovation led him to apply rock climbing technology to fall protection solutions for the Industrial Safety and Fall Protection industry. At Climbtech, Karl leverages his industry connections and product expertise to lead marketing and sales. He currently resides with his wife in Austin, TX.

Joseph Schwartz –Founder, Head of Product Development

ClimbTech co-founder Joseph started climbing in high school with Karl 35 years ago. Born with a gift for mechanical aptitude, he was the principal automotive mechanic for Chris Zootis Performance Center prior to founding ClimbTech. During his five year stretch as a race car mechanic, Joe was given the nick name Lucky due to his consistent and reliable performance.

Joseph applied his mechanical aptitude to bringing mountaineering technology to public safety in the eighties, when he co-invented his first product, the Roller Chock, with Karl. Over the past 25 years, Joseph has developed the processes and tooling required to take an idea from conception through the design stages to a marketable finished product. At ClimbTech Joe is famous for envisioning solutions to “unsolvable” design challenges in the oddest of times and places. He thrives on coming up with solutions that stump the engineers in the largest fall protection companies in the world. He lives in Wimberley Texas, with his two teenage children.
